To MARS with MER - RESEARCH/ers

Deborah Bass
Deputy Science Team Chief
NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California

P2K: I'm not Barbara Walters so I'm not sure how much deeper I can get you to go, but everybody says it is "fun." Everybody says they "love" doing this. What in essence makes you work so hard on this project?

Deborah Bass: We're going to Mars. How many people get to say that they participated in a spacecraft mission landing on another planet? Right now we can see Mars in the sky and I look up there late at night when I'm walking my dogs and I think I'm part of something that's going to that semi-star, that thing in the sky, and we're going to land it on that little object in the sky and get to participate in that. That's amazing! What an incredible experience!
