To MARS with MER - RESEARCH/ers

Deborah Bass
Deputy Science Team Chief
NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California

P2K: Any particular words of wisdom for a young woman who's thinking about a career in this area who's a junior high student?

Deborah Bass: I think getting a wide range of experiences is good, and keep yourself open to learning from the experiences you have. Take what you've done and the next time something comes along recognize how the last thing helped you in this future one.

P2K: How would you describe your experience on the Mars Exploration Rovers mission so far? What adjectives come to mind on this long strange trip that you guys have been on so far, but still have lots more travel to do?

Deborah Bass: I have had more fun in this job than I have ever had. I love coming to work!!! It is great! It is hard and I'm working long hours and sometimes the meetings are not so great. However it's fabulous and I feel very, very lucky to be able to participate in this.
