PASSPORT TO KNOWLEDGE - To MARS with MER

Are the rovers able to explore the whole planet Mars?

The rovers move quite slowly. At their fastest speed they move about a mile an hour. When you consider all of the science activity - the pictures that the rover has to take. The rover only moves about a quarter of a mile during its entire lifetime on the surface. So we place them in a particular place on the surface and they only roam around in that very neighborhood.
