Stephanie Pfirman Barnard College/Columbia University Stephanie Pfirman, a member of the Polar Research Board, is Professor of Environmental and Applied Sciences and Chair, Department of Environmental Science, Barnard College/Columbia Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. Pfirman has been involved with researching the Arctic environment, interdisciplinary curriculum development, environmental policy strategies and public outreach. Her current research interests include sea ice in the Arctic, and the development of women scientists. She co-chaired NSF's Bridging the Poles workshop on IPY education and outreach. Pfirman received a Ph.D. in Marine Geology and Geophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program in Oceanography and Oceanographic Engineering, and a BA in Geology from Colgate University. |
