My Background

I grew up in Ireland, and studied Physics at college, going on to take a Ph.D. in Astrophysics. I worked at the University of Birmingham in England for four years, and I am now employed by the Universities Space Research Association, on a contract with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. So you can see that my work has taken me a long way from home. I also get to travel to a lot of interesting places as part of my job--in the last year I've been to Japan and Taiwan, and I travel to Europe once or twice a year. This international cooperation is one of the most exciting things about being a scientist. I have good friends all over the world as a result of my job.
