The KAO Tracking System

When the KAO turns onto a data leg of the flight path, the Telescope Operator turns control of the telescope over to the Tracker Operator. The Tracker Operator, and sometimes the PI, controls the fine motion of the telescope and makes sure that the telescope is tracking on the object being observed. Because the objects being observed are often too dim to see with the tracker camera, the Tracker Operator must compare the tracker image to a star chart in order to fine tune the pointing of the telescope.
