Thursday, May 16:
Our new and improved survey form is now online, linked at the Teacher's
Guide, at the top of the Teachers' Lounge (and Kids' Corner too) and, 
of course you can find it in the "Give us Feedback" and Overview sections
of the banner heading each HST page. It's quicker and practically pain
free! We would surely appreciate your help as we strive to improve.

For an additional level of interactivity, please join us immediately
following the broadcast for an unrehearsed celebration.  Heidi Hammel,
Marc Buie, Space Telescope personnel and Passport to Knowledge folks will
all be on hand to discuss what we've just learned.  It should be a swell
way to wind down from the excitement of the television program.

Did you miss the live chat today?  If so, check the schedule at

scheduled for Friday, March 29 from 9:30-11:30am Pacific 
(12:30-2:30pm Eastern) LIVE from the exhibit floor of the NSTA
convention. This convention brings together 15,000 science teachers for a 
festival of learning. Many Passport to Knowledge
organizers and teachers will be attending, and this is one way you can 
virtually join us. Don't miss it!

The draft script for the March 14th broadcast is online in the Video
area. Teachers, you may want to take a look beforehand to prepare
the students for viewing with some thought-provoking questions.

Also, we keep receiving Student Stumpers. I haven't heard. Are we
getting responses too? Go ahead, take a stab at one or two!

LHST #11  - Answers Challenge question 1 and poses a new challenge 
that requires your own astonomical observations. Journals include Marc
Buie's encounter with Dr. Tombaugh and the culmination of the 
Happy Birthday project as students presented your submissions to the
discoverer of Pluto!

he must go through to prepare to receive the new Pluto data.  Trisha 
Borgman takes the time in her hectic life to share her activities, 
and Howard Lanning describes a day in the life of a Contact Scientist.

It is not too early to consider:
The Live From the Hubble Space Telescope programs will be broadcast live 
over PBS and NASA Television. Each PBS affiliate independently decides 
its own programming schedule.  Therefore, any teacher hoping to receive the
broadcasts from their local PBS station should contact the station to
determine their plans regarding Live From the Hubble Space Telescope.  
The stations need considerable lead time to schedule such events, so 
the sooner, the better!

December 29th.  The broadcasts are 30 minutes long and are carried 
at 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm EASTERN!!

Thanks to Zolt Levay from STScI, image processing 
specialist in the Office of Public Outreach -- there 
are some useful comparative pictures now up on HST's Home 
Page: go to "http://www.stsci.edu/pubinfo/livefrom.html"
to find images of Pluto and new pictures of Jupiter. Both 
sets are black and white, but help you get a sense of the 
dramatic difference of scale and resolution between the 
two planets. There are also links to recent imagery of 
Uranus and Neptune, to ensure all our candidate planets are 
treated equally! Thanks to all for this additional resource!

Planet Advocate Reta Beebe is very busy since this is 
the week that Galileo's probe plunges into Jupiter 
(December 7) but we still hope to hear back from her 
and the other two "P.A."s. 
Less than two weeks to go in the Great Planet Debate!

On Friday, December 1, Geoff Haines-Stiles writes:
And "the whole world is watching"! We're pleased to let you know that we 
expect Germany (site of HST's European Coordinating Facility) to be a live 
uplink site for one or more of the March and April telecasts. And 
through introductions by Bill Gutsch (former head of the Hayden 
Planetarium in New York, Advisor to LIVE FROM THE HUBBLE SPACE 
TELESCOPE and hard at work on hands-on activities for the printed 
Teacher's Guide to be available in January), we expect that students in 
Novgorod, Russia, and Donesk, Ukraine, will also be participating 
via the Internet, as will others in th>
<HR><H3>Transfer interrupted!</H3>
Beebe says, only the Internet can make such international 
interaction practicable, and we hope to find ways to enable your 
students to connect around our own home planet, while gearing up to 
study the outer planets! We hope you agree that this adds a very 
exciting dimension to the project.

But our immediate task is to decide WHICH planet, or at 
most, which TWO planets to observe with 1, 2 or 3 orbits 
of the HST. There have been quite a number of pro-Pluto 
comments posted to this list (discuss-hst), and we'll be 
very interested to see how things progress in the next week.
