THE COSMIC ECOSYSTEM

The program begins with the latest dynamic and beautiful images of quasars, active galaxies, nebulae and supernova remnants brought back by CHANDRA, the Hubble Space Telescope and other NASA missions and telescopes from around our planet. We realize that we live in a dynamic, changing universe, one where life on Earth has only been made possible by the life and death of previous generations of stars, and where even galaxies seemingly the grandest and most enduring objects we can see are not "islands", but sometimes collide or emit gas out into the cosmos.

CHANDRA’s Pepi Fabbiano describes this as an "ecosystem", like the living environments we see around us. These awesome objects and processes are ones we have a better understanding of today than ever before but there are many mysteries still to be explored. One of the key instruments in exploring the frontiers of knowledge is the CHANDRA X-ray Observatory.
