The STANDARDS CORRELATION chart suggests which Mississippi Statewide Competencies you can cover using PASSPORT TO WEATHER AND CLIMATE in your classroom. We hope you will discover additional standards you can use. These are the ones our Instructional Materials Development team felt most directly related to the activities contained in PASSPORT TO WEATHER AND CLIMATE.
For additional Mississippi Statewide Competencies you can cover see the STANDARDS CORRELATION chart for the following PASSPORT TO KNOWLEDGE projects:
Elementary Standards: First Grade,
Second Grade, Third Grade,
Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade
Middle School Standards: Sixth Grade, Seventh Grade,
Eighth Grade
The competencies for Grades K-8 science emphasize four major strands: Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, and Science Skills. Kindergarten science is designed to cover basic characteristics of living things, planet Earth, environmental concerns, recycling, and properties of matter. Throughout the teaching process, safety skills, scientific method processes, measuring, use of scientific equipment, current events, environmental issues, and hands-on activities will be emphasized.
The competencies are those elements in the document representing a general concept or performance that is required to be taught to all students by the school district.
