Heraldo Vasconcelos is head of the Department of Ecology at INPA, the National Institute for Research in Amazonia, headquartered in Manaus, and the Smithsonian’s partner in the bi-national Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project. Heraldo’s principal research interest, at the moment, is leaf-cutter ants.
