The competencies for Grades K-8 science emphasize four major strands: Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, and Science Skills. Kindergarten science is designed to cover basic characteristics of living things, planet Earth, environmental concerns, recycling, and properties of matter. Throughout the teaching process, safety skills, scientific method processes, measuring, use of scientific equipment, current events, environmental issues, and hands-on activities will be emphasized.
The competencies are those elements in the document representing a general concept or performance that is required to be taught to all students by the school district.
