Hi LFStorm Teachers,

Hats off again to Geoff and Erna, April Whitt, all the participating scientists, and the entire P2K team for another excellent broadcast. Since we are entering tornado season here in Illinois ( a state which actually holds many tornado records ) the timing of the program was perfect.

Rather than viewing the broadcast live, I'm sharing it in three 20 minute segments with my classes the rest of this week. In reviewing and discussing many of the answers sent by the ON-AIR experts, along the topics covered during the program, it occurred to me that LFStorm, perhaps more than any other P2K project, is truly providing a public service. It is helping us teach our students proper safety procedures during severe weather. As Dr. Harold Brooks stated in his comments, the students will be teaching their families procedures which could someday save their lives.

Maybe "Live From the Storm" should be titled "Staying Alive DURING the Storm".

Dear Storm Watchers,
As part of our Live from the Storm Unit of Study each of the students made instruments and we have been going out and collecting weather data daily. This week we are testing so we are not doing science. If your class is also collecting weather data please let me know so we can compare and contrast our two weather environments, that would be fun for the kids. We had a field trip to the meteorologists, National Weather Station, which is about 25 miles from our rural school and they said our data was 98% accurate. Not bad! Sincerely, Ginny Dexter, Hydesville School, Hydesville, CA (On a map, look up the coast of California until you see Eureka, 270 miles north of San Francisco. Our rural school is a 25 minute drive southeast of Eureka) Where the coast meets th redwoods.....
