Educator Program A
The two Educator programs, or In-Service Videos, are designed to:
2) provide a background on the people and places seen in the Student or Classroom videos, and
Educator Program A has 4 sections:
1) "Our Solar System" An introductory tour, using brief excerpts from the classroom videos
3) "Key Concepts for Understanding the Solar System" participating scientists suggest what they believe are the most important ideas for understanding the solar system (including gravity, fusion, the size of a planet, the greenhouse effect, the electromagnetic spectrum, and comparative planetology) Classroom Videos / In-service Videos / Implementation Guide / Hands-On Activities / Worksheets / Website / National Standards
Our Cosmic Neighborhood: a Primer for Teachers (29:15)
1) familiarize teachers with some of the key scientific concepts addressed by PASSPORT TO THE SOLAR SYSTEM
3) show demonstrations by master teachers of some of the Hands-On Activities
2) "Meet the Scientists" An introduction to the science-Mentors you and your students will meet throughout the series, together with comments from Torrence Johnson and Claudia Alexander explaining why NASA and its researchers support education and public outreach
4) "Researchers and Educators" Thoughts from some of the science-Mentors on what it was at school which first excited them about astronomy and the planets, and what it takes-math, physics, chemistry, enthusiasm and curiosity-to pursue an interest in planetary science. (Your students may also enjoy this section of the "Educator" program.)
