Nathalie Cabrol and the Licancabur expeditions
In an ongoing series of expeditions to the Andes, including dives in some of the highest lakes on Earth, Nathalie Cabrol (NASA Ames Research Center & The SETI Institute) an colleagues have been exploring how life can adapt to extreme conditions. Nathalie considers her findings showing that life can evolve coping mechanisms to deal with multiple extremes (cold, UV, dessication, etc.) all operating at the same time to be one of the most important results to date from her work high in the Andes.
