QUESTION: Did you want to work with space as you were growing up? ANSWER from Wendy Whiting on May 20: There are several things I remember from when I was growing up that I'm sure had a great impact on the interest I developed in science, especially astronomy, and NASA. One was the manned space missions that took place during the 1960's and 70's. I remember watching with intense interest the TV broadcasts covering the missions. The NASA moon landing in 1969 made a huge impression on me as a girl, as it did almost everyone at that time. Another thing that really helped to get me interested in science was my high school physics class. The teacher was really good, and we did many experiments during that class that I found fun and interesting. I ended up getting my Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Astronomy; I've always wanted to go and look up my old physics teacher and let him know this! I would have to say that from a very early age I was was interested in the NASA space program, and that I always thought it would be great to be involved with NASA in some way.
