QUESTION: Is there a meteor on a collision course with earth? ANSWER from Al Harper on October 14, 1995 As far as I know, there is no evidence of a three-mile-wide meteor definitely on a collision course with the earth (and I'm sure I would have heard about it, since that would cause a very SERIOUS bang! The KAO would not be the best telescope to detect such a meteor, since it and it's instruments were not designed to patrol very large areas of the sky. However, there is ample evidence that such events have happened in the past. Can you think of some examples? (You can see one kind of evidence on about half the clear nights every month. Other kinds might require you to do some travelling-- or some study in history books.) Hope you saw and enjoyed the "Live from the Stratosphere" broadcasts. Al Harper
