QUESTION: What is it like up there? ANSWER from Allan Meyer on October 16, 1995: Many KAO veterans say it's more like riding in a submarine than in an airplane. Noisy, sometimes cold, always very dry. Sometimes boring, sometimes exciting. Hard to eat - no table space. At least everyone manages to keep a good sense of humor about it (usually). Hardly ever any scenery to look at: occasionally a pretty sunset, but most of the time just black outside. The stars don't twinkle at all, because we fly above most of the atmosphere. Even though I wear thermal underwear, a flight suit, wool socks, and flight boots, my feet get cold.
