QUESTION: How far outside of the solar system can KAO "see" with it's telescope? ANSWER from Robert Coutts on November 22, 1995: Seeing far away is really dependent on two things: the size of the telescope (its mirror diameter) and how long you have to look. The smaller the telescope, the longer you have to look to see the same distance out as a larger telescope. This is exactly like taking a photograph. The dimmer the light, the longer the exposure (we're not talking flashes here). The bigger the lens diameter, the shorter the exposure. I'm not sure how far other observers have seen using the KAO, but our group has seen several hundred million light years away. The solar system is a tiny speck in that distance.
