QUESTION: We tried and tried, but couldn't successfully hook up with you. Our connection was refused by host telling me that it was overloaded. Could you possibly expand your possibilities so that we can all get in? ANSWER from Marc Siegal on Oct.14,1995: There have been brief periods of time where our host refuses connections because it is too busy, but not very many. Are you getting these host messages consistantly? If so, it could be indicative of a problem which is not related to quest.arc.nasa.gov. A good test is that if you receive a message saying "host is not available or is too busy", try immediately to then connect with another system at Ames (perhaps try www.arc.nasa.gov). If you get the same message there, then the problem is likely to not be with Quest. Two things that often cause these errors besides the host being down are: 1) Network problems somewhere along the way 2) Name resolution problems; at times, Netscape (are you using Netscape) will lose its ability to translate an address like quest.arc.nasa. gov into a network number. This can be corrected by quitting out of of Netscape and then restarting the program. In the future, please send these sorts of questions to marc@quest.arc.nasa.gov The question-lfs address you used isn't set up for the rapid response you need.
