The backwater of this major river provides an ecosystem for water fowl and water mammals, submerged and emergent river plants, and a wetlands ecology for wide variety of life.

Looking northward along the riverbank; local riverboats provide recreational trips during summer, but the river freezes over during the winter.

These water fowl have returned to the region in the last few weeks as spring returns. Many Wood Ducks & Mallards make their summer homes in the region.

Deciduous trees such as sugar maple, ash, birch and oak are found within the park -- buds are just beginning to appear as spring returns. Squirrel nests are commonly sited in the upper reaches.
