I. SITE DESCRIPTORS

  1. Latitude/Longitude of data collection site:
42 degrees 12 min. North degrees latitude
70 degrees 43 minutes West degrees longitude
  2. Time zone: Eastern Daylight
  3. Biome Description: shoreline

Our site consists of two beaches separated by a jetty made of igneous riprap. There is a small lighthouse at the entrance to the harbor at the end of the jetty facing into the Atlantic Ocean. The ground is covered by sand near the water and rounded rocks ranging in size from very small to more than 30 cm in diameter nearer the jetty. The beach facing the harbor is flat and has very fine-grained sand. Coarse sand is found on the steep sloping (10 degrees) beach facing the ocean.
