Given the impact the E-rate federal legislation this information may assist your efforts to further implement PTK projects. *Excerpt* from recent EDINFO list posting by Kirk Winters... "PREPARING CLASSROOMS FOR THE FUTURE: Ensuring Access to the Internet" is the title of this month's Satellite Town Meeting -- on Tuesday, October 21, from 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. Secretary Riley & Linda Roberts, Special Advisor on Technology, will host a panel discussion on how schools & libraries can gain access to the Internet & use it as a tool for learning. The discussion will focus on the recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruling that will make available up to $2.25 billion in discounts to schools & libraries for telecommunications services (E-rate), beginning in January 1998. Panelists will also discuss how schools & libraries can develop technology plans & prepare to apply for the E-rate. The Satellite Town Meeting is available at no cost but you are asked to register.
