Subject: URGENT ALERT!!! CHANGE IN PBS SATELLITE COORDINATES
Date: Fri, 03 Oct 1997 13:20:37 -0400
To all those interested in accessing the upcoming LIVE FROM MARS programs >>>directly from the PBS satellite<<<: (this does NOT affect you if you are accessing NASA-TV or plan to watch your local PBS broadcast station) Please note that as of October 11th 1997 PBS will be using a new satellite, and coordinates. This WILL affect the previously distributed information for both Fall 97 LIVE FROM MARS programs. (Until this time, PBS had not been able to confirm coordinates, pending successful launch and deployment of the satellite.) The October 30th and November 13th programs will be carried at 12:30-13:00 Eastern (test) and the actual one hour program from 13:00-14:00 Eastern on: GE-3, Ku-band 87 degrees West longitude transponder 20, vertical polarity 12100 Mhz, audio on 6.2, 6.8 Mhz. This will be the new PBS Adult Learning Services transponder. It is analog (not digital) and not scrambled. Please note that this is how the broadcasts are carried to individual PBS stations for subsequent "over the air" carriage. You will still need to "Check local listings" to determine what your local station has decided in terms of live or tape delayed carriage. *** NASA-TV We have also just had confirmation that NASA-TV >will< carry the programs on these dates and at these times: a shuttle launch had previously been scheduled for the very same day. NASA-TV is carried on a C-band transponder on: GE-2, C-band 85 degrees West longitude transponder 9C, vertical polarity 3880 Mhz, audio is monaural on 6.8 Mhz. So long as NASA-TV carries us live, Quest will also support live RealVideo Internet distribution. Please share this information with colleagues in your school who may have received the LIVE FROM MARS Teacher's Guide and other materials from earlier mailings. Both PBS and NASA-TV have changed satellites since the first printing. Hope you'll join us on air! Onwards and Upwards, to Mars and beyond...
