Hi Happy Mars Explorers,

For great background reading about Mars, try Eric Burgess's book *Return to
the Red Planet* published by Columbia University Press in 1990. Eric examines
the Mars of mythology and fiction, reviews the history of Mars astronomy and
robotic exploration up to 1989, describes the Mars known through the Mariner
and Viking missions, relates the evidence for and against life on Mars,
describes future missions to Mars, et cetera, et cetera. Here are the chapter
titles:

1. Anthropomorphic Mars
2. A Mysterious and Majestic World
3. A Question of Life
4. The Spirit of 76 Yields to the Soviet Armada?
5. Wake Up America!
6. Mars Outposts, Bases, and Settlements
7. Promise of the Future

Return to the Red Planet has 175+ photos and drawings, maps of Mars, lots of
data, and a glossary. It's a terrific resource for learners and teachers.

Cheers,

Bob Albrecht
