Even though I never met Gene Shoemaker, through videos and books I have
gotten a real feel for his life's work, and I'm really sad that he is gone,
because had he been able to live to a ripe old age, he would have really
gotten to see his work come to even greater fruition than it already has.
However, he has left a tremendous legacy and he was truly one of the giants
of the dawn of the space age.  I hope they name a great crater on Mars
after him.
