Dear Mars Educators,

I want to share this quick thought with you.

In 1976, when I was 9 years old, I followed the Viking lander missions
very closely by reading TIME magazine. Those of you that have seen me
speak have probably seen me show the cover of TIME with Nadia Comaneche
and the Mars photo.

Life has come full circle. Now the cover has Jewel instead of Nadia,
but inside is an article about our latest Mars landing. Once again I
buy TIME magazine to see what they are saying about the mission. Lo
and behold-- they quoted *me* in the article! Life comes full circle!
Life is *good*!

The issue is July 21, 1997 and besides the Mars article there is a piece
near the front of the magazine about the cartoon character rocks on Mars.
The quote by me, I think, is from one of my MSNBC appearances, because it
is definitely not from me talking to a reporter from TIME (no one called
me, so I wasn't expecting this quote in the magazine...).

Take care and keep having a great summer!
