Subject: Mars Surveyor 98 Video!

Dear Mars Educators, Last friday I received in the mail a very cool video about the Mars Surveyor '98 missions. There is an orbiter, being built RIGHT NOW, and a lander that will reach the high southern latitudes of Mars late in 1999. The video is from the same people who did the beatiful computer-animated Mars Pathfinder video that you have probably seen several times. The video runs for about 20 minutes. It starts out with a nice summary that runs from Viking to Mars Observer, to the Global Surveyor and Pathfinder missions. From there, it goes into the '98 missions in great detail. The computer-generated stuff looks *nicer* than the older Mars Pathfinder video. Unlike the Mars Pathfinder video, this one is a bit nicer because they give units in "miles" "pounds" etc., instead of "kilometers" and "kilograms". The stuff about the orbiter might be useful, too, for explaining some of what Mars Global Surveyor is going to be doing this fall (since they don't have an equivalent video about this spacecraft). Well, if interested, take a look at the relevant web page or write to the address below. The web page also has information on how to order the Mars Pathfinder video and the "Mars Navigator" CD-Rom.
