Dear discuss-LFMers- PTK has *returned* from Antarctica (a most successful trip!) and is gearing up for our mission to the Red Planet via the live broadcast on April 24, 1997. Project Director Geoff Haines-Stiles and Executive Producer Erna Akuginow are trying to cook up a TV program with great content and great connections both to the Mars Missions and the activities featured in the LFM Teacher's Guide. They asked me to poll all you Mars enthusiasts as follows: 1) Red Rover - Which classes are participating? What are you doing? At what level are you participating? 2) Red Rover-like activities; there was some discussion back in October of having schools/classes in separate locations doing Red Rover-like simulations via CU-SeeMe collaboration. Have any teachers pursued that idea? 3) The Incredible Light Bulb/Egg Drop Challenge (Activity 3.1, p. 41 in the LFM TG) - Which classes have completed this activity so far? Have you documented the results (pictures, videos)? Are you planning to do this activity in the next few weeks? 4) The Planet Explorer Toolkit -- are your students engaged in the online debate to determine the universal BEST Toolkit? Will you be taking groups of students to a local PET site for Data Collection using the collaboratively designed Toolkit? Are you planning to document your PET Mission (data collection) at a locale site? What challenges are you and the students facing? You are encouraged to give an overview of this activity and how your classes have been involved. We look forward to hearing from you! Best- Pat Haddon Passport to Knowledge
