I would like to recommend that you take a look at the February 1997 issue of "Que' tal?" (In The Current Skies) <http://currentsky.com/sky_stuff/feb97/feb97.html>. The issue describes in simple AND technical terms the phenomenon we might observe this year of Mars seeming to stop its motion across our sky and actually go backwards over a period of nights. Besides some interesting charts and graphics, there are directions for making a graph on which to plot this occurrence from last December to July of 1997.
