I finally tracked down the name of the program that simulates a mars rover travelling along the surface of mars. It is a two CD set for Windows and Macintosh. The price is $29.95 for the 2 CDs plus shipping and handling. This is from Virtual Reality Laboratories in California. 800-829-8754 is the phone number given.
