CHOOSE ONE OF THESE INSTRUCTIONAL STRANDS
(Strand Components: inspirational, hands-on, technology applications, and
instructional strategies)
STRAND 1. Introductory I Workshop, Space Basics, Facilitator: Lisette
Clemons, (integrated, multidisciplinary, hands-on).
This strand will explore Rocketry, the X-33 Program, toys on Earth as
related to space, Space Shuttle for the Beginner, Space Station
Simulation and creating a Space Week at your school. (All grade levels)
STRAND 2. Introductory II - Living and Working in Space Workshops,
Facilitator: Carrie Duits, Donna Meakins, (integrated,
multidisciplinary, hands-on). This strand will explore an interplanetary
travel agency, all about spacesuits, astronaut training simulation, and
creating a Space Week at your school. (All grade levels)
STRAND 3. Introductory III - Challenger Center Models, Facilitator: Pam
Peterson, Bob Stack, Challenger Center (Elementary/Middle School
Programs) The Award Winning Challenger Center Strand will present Comet,
Moon and Mars Activities that will allow teachers to weave space theme
simulations for the classroom. Note: There will be an additional $5.00
material fee payable to the Challenger Center the day of the workshop.
(elementary/middle grade levels)
STRAND 4. Intermediate I - Earth/Space Science Workshops, Mission to
Planet Earth, Facilitator: Dan Rodier, Jack Faber, Space Grant College,
(integrated approach for space science within science disciplines) This
strand will explore making the connection between Earth and space
science; observations of the Earth from space shuttle photography;
light, color, optics and space, atmospheric studies, and creating an
Earth/Space Science week at your school. (all grade levels, orientation
to middle)
STRAND 5. Intermediate II - Life Sciences. Facilitator: Bonnie McClain,
NASA Space Life Sciences. (integrated approach for space science within
science disciplines) This strand will explore connecting Space Life
Science research to your classroom. Included will be resource
information and lesson suggestions on these focus topics: foods for
space explorers, plants in space, tapping into Space Life Science
technology. Ideas for a Space Life Science Week will be discussed. (all
grade levels, orientation to middle)
STRAND 6. Advanced I - Advanced Space, Facilitator: Angelo Aragon,
Overland High School (integrated approach for space science within
science disciplines) This strand is for the experienced teacher and will
explore Astronomy; Spectroscopy, The Doppler Shift and the Expanding
Universe; the Global Positioning System; and the MoonLink Mission.
(orientation: middle/high school level)
STRAND 7. Advanced II - Toolbox for the 21st Century, Facilitator: David
Aguilar, Ball Aerospace. Excite students to action - Bring new
perspectives to the classroom - Move forward confidently into the 21st
century. Know and use the miracles of the 21st Century and use total
energy management to reap success. The 21st Century Toolbox teaches
people how to develop critical skills with interdisciplinary hands-on
activities. (all grade levels)
Cost: Only $25.00 includes continental breakfast, lunch, and the '97
Make Space for Space Resource Guide.
Free Accommodations for Teachers: Fifty double/triple occupancy rooms
will be given for Thursday, January 23rd to teachers who have to drive a
long distance. Free rooms must be arranged with CSEI prior to the
conference.

for $59 State/CSEI Rate single or double occupancy by December 23, 1996.

and enclose a check for $25 made out to CSEI and send to the address
