Hi PTK'ers, While not directly related to LFM, there is always student interest in Space Shuttle missions - especially when it involves docking with the Russian Space Station Mir. For those of us who live too far from KSC to have our students watch the launches, they can still view the shuttle as it orbits overhead. Point your web browser to: http://shuttle.nasa.gov/current/orbit/orbiter/sighting/sighting.html You should find a listing of sighting opportunities for your location for viewing both Atlantis and Mir. My own 7th and 8th grade students have accessed these dates and times for our location in Illinois and have been dragging their parents out of bed at 5:30 am to watch Atlantis streak across the pre-dawn sky. Those who make the effort arrive at school really excited and anxious to share their experiences. As for next week's lunar eclipse, we too have scheduled a "Moon Watch" and would be happy to contribute data for a star census.
