Lucy and the rest of the list,

We in Gibraltar, MI are lucky enough to have a large and interesting
Metro Park on the shores of Lake Erie and within walking distance of the
school. The local astronomy society also uses the facilities of the
Metro Park on occasion. During the Hyakutake Comet pass I met some of
my students in a parking lot on the shore and enjoyed the telescopes
brought by the society.

Another lucky happenstance is having the daughter of one of those
society members in this class. With a little luck we will have a clear
night this weekend coming up and combine the viewing of Mars with the
park's HawkFest weekend. Some of my students are going to help with the
Hawkfest. I give a daily one or two question checkup on the homework
reading. Appearance at the sighting or the Hawkfest will equal the
credit for one of these check-ups. As it looks right now, the students
could use the extra credit!

Hopefully, we can also have the society member give a little talk about
the eclipse and directions for viewing.
