The early stages of lunar development, including the first flight, are paid for through associated ventures in known industries such as entertainment and merchandising. The revenues expected from those sources are at least three times the cost of the first mission. Because of this funding mechanism, no direct investment in manned space is required, and the Artemis Project will have made a net profit before the first launch. If you want more information, ask <artemis@asi.org>, and most of the stuff that's been done is on the web site somewhere, http://www.asi.org/ The site is rather large, well in excess of 600 pages. (Its so big because much of the technical work that's been done finds its way into the Artemis Data Book, which is online.) Anyway, there are a whole bunch of mailing lists on which the work is done by the world-wide team making the Artemis Project happen. These lists are topic-oriented towards a specific part of the Artemis Project.
