QUESTION: I heard a press briefing describe a series of rocks that all leaned in one direction. Peter Smith speculated that this could have been caused by the last flood. Has anybody considered that the airbags might have rolled over them just prior to coming to rest? ANSWER from Bruce Jakosky on July 10, 1997: It seems unlikely that the air bags would be able to move that many rocks so cleanly, and leave no evidence for their having moved. With only a few exceptions (such as streaks on the ground, one or two small rocks moved), there is nothing in the scene so far that looks like there has been a major disturbance by the lander or airbags.
