I have read that the Pathfinder team had a picture of Ares Valles in the
hallway of mission control and that each person put their name on the
location where they thought Pathfinder would land. Who was right?

The story can now be told...rover movie director and imaging scientist
Justin Maki placed his landing site token closest to the actual landing
site. The actual landing site was determined using images of the area taken
from orbit by the Viking spacecraft in the late 1970s and images of the
landing site horizon taken by the Sagan Memorial Station.
