QUESTION: I would like to see the raw data, i.e. X-ray counts on the y-axis and keV (or channel #) on the x-axis. Is this available? ANSWER from Bridget Landry on October 6, 1997: From one of our APXS people: The Principal Investigator of the instrument, Dr. Rudi Rieder, from the Max Planck Institut fur Chemie, Mainz, Germany, has not yet given NASA permission to release raw APXS spectra to the public. He has up to 6 months to verify and calibrate the data. The raw data is supposed to be submitted to the Planetary Data Systems (PDS) Geosciences Node no later than 6 months after receipt on Earth from Mars (i.e., starting January 7, 1998): http://wwwpds.wustl.edu/ It will probably take awhile for the PDS to prepare it for public distribution, so at that point, the Pathfinder project will probably put some of the raw spectra on the Pathfinder public web site.
