QUESTION: I would like to know if you are going to attempt to find a way around the rough terrain to inspect Yogi's blue half, or if you are just going to look around for another rock like it. What are your theories so far on the blue tint? ANSWER from Wendy Calvin on August 4, 1997: I can't comment on whether they will try to navigate behind yogi, as to the "blue" tint, it is just that this part of the rock looks blue in contrast to all the bright red soil. In general, "blue" is interpreted as meaning that the rock has not been weathered, i.e. the chemistry has not been altered through interactions with water. I'm sure the Pathfinder team plans to measure several unaltered rocks in order to better understand the original composition of the planet and its interior.
