QUESTION: I heard on a radio program that the Pathfinder would be "lost" and then "found" again in time to land on July 20, 1997. Is there any truth to this? ANSWER from Pieter Kallemeyn on June 26, 1997: Not true. We have never lost Pathfinder, and we are still on course to land on July 4th at 10:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time. The rumor was started somehow on the assumption that it would be "nice" to land on the anniversary of the first manned lunar landing, which occurred on July 20th, 1969. Today (June 26) we are 8 days away from landing, and if we wanted to delay our landing by 16 days, we would have to slow waaaayyy down, requiring more propellant (20 times, roughly) than we have on board. - Pieter Kallemeyn
