QUESTION: Are there any plans to grow vegetation using martian soil? ANSWER from Mark Adler on July 6, 1997: No, not yet. Eventually we will be returning a small amount of Martian dirt to Earth, and we could do a small experiment of that type here. Of course, we'd have to at least add water since there won't be any water in dirt from Mars' non-polar regions. Also we may find out from data collected overnight (5-6 July 1997) by the Sojourner rover what may be lacking in the dirt for plant growth, and what may be present in the dirt that would inhibit plant growth. mark
