Do you plan to do testing of core samples in future missions?

ANSWER from Peter Thomas on July 14, 1997:
Coring (as in drilling to depths of many meters to tens or hundred of
meters) might be done on a future mission.  The 2001 and 2003 rovers would
carry small sampling drills able to drill into rocks about 5 cm.  Deeper
drilling is very energy intensive and difficult on a small robotic platform.
