QUESTION: Is there anything, if at all, that you are going to change drastically in the next flight missions to Mars? Why? ANSWER from Andrew Petro on August 4, 1997: Yes, there will many changes to the Mars missions that will follow Pathfinder. There will be a mission about every 26 months and each one will build on the previous experience and add new capabilities to observe Mars from orbit and explore the surface with larger rovers which can travel further. Eventually there will be rovers which collect samples for return to Earth. Sometime in the next 10 to 15 years there may be a mission carrying people to explore Mars. The Jet Propulsion Lab web site can provide more detail about the upcoming robot missions to Mars. Andrew Petro, JSC
