QUESTION: After the Surveyor arrives at Mars in September, will its camera have sufficient resolution that it will be able to photograph Pathfinder lying on the Martian surface? ANSWER from Guy Beutelschies on July 19, 1997: Unfortunately Mars Global Surveyor's camera does not have the 1 meter resolution which is what it would take to discern Pathfinder (although it is an excellent camera). It will, however, take very good pictures of the region we landed in so that scientists on both projects can compare their findings. Guy Beutelschies Mars Pathfinder Flight Engineer
