SUBJECT: SITREP AND OBSERVATIONS FROM R/V Polar Duke

GMT DATE: 04 JANUARY 1997

REMARKS: The Polar Duke departed Punta Arenas, Chile on 03 January 1997 at 2230 LT. Originally scheduled to depart at 1500 LT, the ship was delayed due to the late arrival of an air freight shipment and weather that required closing of the port. Sustained winds of 50-55 kts, frequently gusting to 70+ knots were experienced for most of the day.

The vessel is enroute to the Hugo Island archipelago to service an AWS station and expects to arrive there the evening of 07 January.

Al Hickey
