QUESTION: How can you study outside safely in Antarctica when the ozone is depleted? Lindsay D., 6th grade, Taylor Road Middle School Alpharetta, GA ANSWER from Tad Day, Palmer Station, Antarctica Date: Sun, 9 Feb 1997 00:30:57 -0500 Dear Lindsay, We have to take extra precautions when working outdoors during the ozone hole. This best way we do this is by covering ourselves well with clothing. We wear hats with brims to shade ourselves and often wear ski-masks. We also use a very strong "sunblock" or "sunscreen" on any exposed parts of our skin (SPF 50). We always were good sun glasses, usually ones that have side "flaps" as well as a flap that hangs down over our nose. Thanks for your question! Tad
