QUESTION: I know it is dark for six months in Antarctica, but is it completely dark? From Daniel R., in Ms. Wingate's Class, TX. ANSWER from Mary Lenox, ASA, Administrative Coordinator Palmer Station, Antarctica Wed, 19 Feb 1997 16:57:08 -0500 Hi, Daniel! At Palmer Station which is north of the Antarctic Circle, it doesn't get completely dark during the winter. We have kind of a dusk light between 10 am and 2 pm for about six weeks of the winter after which it starts getting lighter again. At McMurdo Station they have about three months of total darkness and at the South Pole Station, they have six months of total darkness. Thanks for your question! Cheers, Mary Lenox
