QUESTION: What do you have to wear to stay warm outside in Antarctica? From students in Mrs. Reid's class at Center Street School in Oneonta, NY. ANSWER from Mary Lenox, Antarctic Support Associates, Administrative Coordinator, Palmer Station, Antarctica Tue, 11 Feb 1997 16:12:45 -0500 Dear Mrs. Reid's Class, Depending on the season we wear different sorts of clothing and boots. My guess is though that you are most curious about the coldest weather. During the winter if we need to be outside for a long period of time, we might wear a couple of pairs of socks like poly propolene and wool, then a couple of pairs of long underwear, a pair of fleece pants, a pair of outer pants like snow pants or wind pants. On top, we'd likely wear a couple of pairs of long underwear, a wool or flannel shirt, a polar fleece pullover, a down vest, and a wind jacket or a parka. Then add a couple hats, Sorels, boots or in extremely cold weather, bunny boots, glove liners and mittens, and sun glasses. Does that sound bundled up enough?? :) Thanks for your question! Mary Lenox
