QUESTION: Can you tell me how you spend a day. Can you tell more about life in Antarctica. Andrey G. ANSWER from Steven Downey, Doctoral Student University of Illinois Sat, 15 Mar 1997 13:30:44 -0500 Dear Andrey, My time in Antarctica was spent on-board a ship most of the time. Free time was spent talking with others on-board, reading, watcing video tapes (since live broadcasts are kind of hard to get) and standing on the bridge or observation decks observing the beautiful surroundings. When we stopped at some of the research stations, the people I talked to said they spent their time in a similar manner. One Chilean station which allowed families to come down and stay with the researcher for part of the year had the added benefits of a basketball court (with a somewhat warped floor) and a small, but very attractive church. I was told mass was held every Sunday, all year round, with different members of the base leading the session each week. Thanks for your question! Steven D.
