Dear Lauren,

The distance from Punta Arenas, Chile to Palmer Station, Antarctica is 
647 nautical miles.  This is equivalent to 744 statute (land) miles as 
1nm = 1.15 statute miles.  We dock in Punta Arenas at the only major 
commercial pier.  This juts out into the Straits of Magellan.  At Palmer 
Station we have a small dock that nicely accomodates the Polar Duke.
