QUESTION: I know it is dark for six months in Antarctica, but is it completely dark? From Daniel R., Ms. Wingates's Class, TX ANSWER from Craig Seeman, Antaratic Support Associates Electrician Palmer Station, Antarctica Sat, 22 Feb 1997 11:37:58 -0500 Dear Daniel, Regarding your question about darkness in Antarctica -- Yes, it does become totally dark here in the Austural Winter season which happens from around April to October. My location at Palmer is farther north than most locations so it doesn't get dark as fast; at the South Pole the daylight is already becoming less because it is farther south. There you will experience 24 darkness for a few months but at Palmer we will have some daylight pretty much all winter long. Wintertime is less severe at Palmer too because it is out of the Antarctic Circle and farther North than most places on the continent. Have fun there in the real world, All the best, Craig Seeman, Winter-Over Electrician @ Palmer
